Alan Avalos

Hometown:
Lombard, IL

Alan is a sophomore student in the College of Science. He is majoring in Neuroscience and Behavior, along a pre-med track, with a supplementary major in Latino Studies. Following his undergraduate studies at Notre Dame, Alan plans to attend medical school or graduate school. Although his fervent interests in medicine govern his area of study, Alan’s hobbies range from reading Magical Realism Hispanic literature to learning and practicing folkloric-Latinx dances and music at the dancefloor. At Notre Dame, Alan is Co-Vice President for the Latinx Student Alliance (LSA) and holds a vocalist position for the Mariachi ND group in-campus.

Beyond the dome, Alan advocates for social justice and the improvement of resources for marginalized communities while volunteering at La Casa de la Amistad and the Sr. Maura Brannick Health Center in South Bend. Coming from a low-income, first generation and immigrant background, Alan encourages social activism hoping to expand the access of opportunities for students like him.
