May we celebrate the freedom and self-determination for African Americans that Juneteenth represents. And as we do so, here are a few links to the history of this holiday. Also, I highly recommend Natasha Tethewey's poem "Elegy for the Naive Guards" in her collection Native Guard. The poem reminds us what we must remember and commemorate on an occasion such as this.
